It’s a particular but effective operation that can provide quick results to those suffering from skin cancers. What is Mohs Surgery?

Mohs surgery is a specific surgical technique that involves progressively removing cancerous skin while limiting any damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The purpose is to remove as much of the skin cancer as possible and to determine if only cancer-free skin tissue remains. This is done by removing thin layers of the cancer-containing skin and examining the tissue in a nearby lab, to determine if all of cancer has been fully removed. The procedure generally lasts from a few hours to the whole day and is done on an outpatient basis with a local anesthetic.

Should I Get Mohs Surgery?

Mohs surgery is used to treat a number of common forms of skin cancer. While it is usually used to treat squamous and basal cell carcinoma, it has also been shown to be effective for certain forms of melanoma. The biggest advantage to a Mohs surgery procedure is that you will know the results right away and generally the procedure isn’t over until all the skin cancer has been removed. There are some risks of infections around the incision site, and possible bleeding, numbness, or weakness around the surgical area. You should talk to your dermatologist and/or Tamjidi expert to figure out if a Mohs surgery operation is the right choice for you.
